Did you know?

We are currently working in conjunction with 9 schools in the area!  It is great to see our schools making community service projects a priority for their students!
Unity Hospice is in the process of developing a Pet Therapy Program.  Contact Brenda McGarvey to learn how to include your pet with you on volunteer visits.  We would love to give your pet an opportunity to share in the joy of visiting patients.   Patients have an incredibly positive reaction to pets especially in the nursing home.  Additional training is required for your pet.  We will provide that information for you!

Are you interested in our 11th Hour Volunteer Program?  The 11th hour volunteer empathizes with the dying and accompanies them on their journey through the process of dying to make sure that no one dies alone. Volunteers in this program receive additional specialized training on the end stages of life.  The 11th Hour volunteers provide comfort and support for the family and the patient.  They become a peaceful presence for a patient and family during the last stages of the patient’s life. Contact Brenda McGarvey if you would like to learn more about this program.

Do you have the gift of gab?  Would you enjoy speaking in front of church or civic groups?  Contact us if you would like to be part of our Speakers Bureau.

We are in the process of developing a Council of Volunteer Advisors board.  This board will serve as the “voice of our volunteers”.  If you would like to be part of a board that works together to make our program the most effective and rewarding program possible, contact Brenda McGarvey.

Filling out reports:

Please remember to send in your reports as soon as possible after your visit.  This helps us to stay in compliance with state regulations.  If you find you will not be able to make your visits for the month, please contact me as soon as possible so that we can schedule someone else for your visits.  Thanks for all you do!

There was never yet an uninteresting life, such a thing is an impossibility.
Inside of the dullest exterior there is a drama, a comedy and a tragedy.

Unity Hospice hosted a Volunteer Ball at Our Lady of the Snows Shrine on May 26, 2009. The theme of this Ball was “1940’s USO – a year of service”. We honored the volunteers who have dedicated their time and compassion to support Unity Hospice patients and their families.

Unity Hospice is celebrating the efforts of our volunteers which produced an average of 72% volunteer to staff hours. Unity Hospice has far exceeded the industry standard of 5% set by Federal and State guidelines.
