Local Hospice Presents “Keeping the Merry in Christmas”

Collinsville, Ill. – Unity Hospice of Greater St. Louis LLC recently hosted “Keeping the Merry in Christmas” holiday event at Knollwood Retirement Community in Caseyville, Ill. Presented by Unity Hospice Social Worker Martha Hawn, the discussion offered suggestions on how to cope with moving into care centers as well as ways to support loved ones living in such facilities.

With the help from Knollwood Retirement Community, Unity Hospice staff and volunteers were able to offer a presentation in support of those that may be suffering emotionally as the holidays near. The event was held in the retirement facility’s grand activity room where guests enjoyed snacks and beverages along with a raffle and holiday giveaways. Those in attendance were Knollwood residents, friends and family members as well as Unity Hospice staff.

“This is a joyful time of year for many individuals, but it often goes unnoticed how many families struggle this season because of loved ones not being able to spend the holidays with them,” said Dawn Whitmire, community relations representative with Unity Hospice. “We enjoyed our evening with Knollwood Retirement Community and, more importantly, our guests and families did as well.”

The discussion received positive feedback from those in attendance. Due to the success of the evening, Unity Hospice will be hosting another event at Knollwood Retirement Community in December.
