Collinsville, Ill. – Unity Hospice of Greater St. Louis, with the help of local care facility Caseyville Nursing & Rehab, recently recognized long-time hospice volunteer, Roy Jones, for his efforts throughout the community. Those in attendance were friends of Jones’, Unity Hospice staff and fellow volunteers along with Caseyville Nursing & Rehab staff.
Jones joined Unity Hospice’s volunteer team in 2010. Now, with nearly 3,000 volunteer hours under his belt, Jones continues to serve his community with as much drive and passion as he held three years ago. As a Unity Hospice volunteer, Jones currently visits 10 hospice patients daily, including weekends, at Caseyville Nursing & Rehab. During his visits, Jones connects with patients on an emotional, social and often times spiritual level. When asked about his fondest memory of volunteering, he emphasized how blessed he feels to work with Unity Hospice Volunteer Coordinator Brenda McGarvey and the rest of the Unity team.
“After my wife passed, I felt a motivation to make a difference. I want to help people realize that there is someone out there who cares,” says Jones. “It isn’t about a paycheck at this point. Our pay is how we help others.”
