Collinsville, Ill. – Unity Hospice of Greater St. Louis recently named Roy Jones Volunteer of 2013 for his exceptional volunteer services throughout the community. In the three years that Jones has been affiliated with Unity Hospice, he has completed nearly 3,000 volunteer hours.
After his wife passed, Jones had a desire to help others in need. He made the decision to join Unity Hospice’s volunteer team in 2010. Jones’ responsibilities include visiting 10 hospice patients daily, including weekends, at Caseyville Nursing & Rehab located in Caseyville, Ill. His dedication to his patients and genuine respect for hospice care are only a couple of the reasons he is the ideal candidate to receive this award.
About the Unity Hospice Volunteer Program
Unity Hospice volunteers are a part of a highly coordinated care team that is designed to provide patients and their families with the very best of care. Volunteers are specially trained to support patients in a variety of ways, including but not limited to socialization, running errands and alternative therapies such as pet therapy. Volunteers are there solely to help the patient with “the little things in life” that mean the most. In the words of Mr. Jones, “hospice is not death; hospice is life.”
