Rochelle, Ill. – On behalf of We Honor Veterans, a program of the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization (NHPCO), Unity Hospice of Western Illinois was awarded with an exclusive certificate and logo for their contribution in recognizing and paying tribute to veterans in their community.

Unity Hospice takes part in the We Honor Veterans initiative, which strives to recognize the unique needs of America’s veterans to help guide them through their life stories toward a more peaceful ending. Unity Hospice reached the third level of completion due to their efforts in providing veteran-centric education to their staff and to the community. Such education included clinical staff training on the specific needs of veterans at the end of life as well as educational seminars presented by Unity Hospice social workers, including topics such as “Understanding the Department of Veteran Affairs,” “PTSD Overview,” and “Veteran Issues at the End of Life.”

Additionally, Unity Hospice Volunteer Coordinator Nancy Ramos served on the Sterling/Rock Falls Stand Down planning committee. In this role, Ramos assisted in planning events that provided goods and services to homeless veterans such as food, shelter, clothing, health screenings, VA and Social Security benefits counseling and referrals to a variety of other necessary services, such as health care, housing, employment and substance use treatment.
