LCC’S Comfort Dogs is a ministry within Lutheran Church Charities that provides animal-assisted therapy to seniors that could benefit from the comfort of an animal. The comfort dogs will be incorporated into Unity Hospice’s pet therapy program where they will begin making routine visits with hospice patients.

Kare-9 Military Ministry is a ministry within LCC that was formed by veterans for veterans. The dogs that make up this ministry are named after a canine that gave its life in the service of our country. Through Kare-9 Military Ministry’s partnership with Unity Hospice, these comfort dogs and their veteran handlers will accompany active duty soldiers in visiting hospice patients receiving a formal recognition ceremony through Unity’s Hospice for Heroes Program.

“We are thrilled to partner with Lutheran Church Charities to provide our patients with a top-of-the-line pet therapy program,” states Unity Hospice Volunteer Coordinator Chrissy Huntzinger. “Our take-away with every program is to ensure a remarkable patient experience” To learn more about LCC’s pet support programs and other ministries, visit http://www.lutheranchurchcharities.org/.

Unity Hospice Pet Therapy Program
Unity Hospice recognizes the benefits of integrating traditional medicine with complimentary medicine as a supportive service. Animals have the ability to connect with humans in a way that is far more unique than they way humans connect with other humans. Unity Hospice pet therapy animals and their handlers can provide unique emotional support for hospice patients and their families. In addition to emotional benefits, pet therapy can also provide certain physical benefits, including reduced anxiety, blood pressure and heart rate.
