Volunteer with Unity

Hospice volunteers are friends who lend an ear, lend a hand… and lend their hearts.

Why Volunteer?

  • You’ll bring support & compassion to people who need it most, when they need it most.
  • You’ll have a sense of purpose.
  • You’ll get to meet and connect with a community of like-minded people.
  • You’ll turn everyday moments… into magical memories!

What do Volunteers do?

Administrative

You will provide office support for the Unity Hospice team. You can do things like organizing mailings, computer work, creating care packets, and more.

Paws for Patients

You (and your pet) will provide companionship to patients, especially those who had to leave their pets behind. You will provide a moment of joy that only a dog can bring.

Patient Care

You will visit patients in nursing homes or private homes. You will hold their hand, or provide a listening ear for someone who may want to share their life stories.

Music Memory

You will work with Alzheimer’s patients to communicate through the joy of music. You will help patients find renewed meaning in their lives through the gift of personalized music.

Music Support

You will share your gift of music with our patients. Playing the piano, guitar, or any other instrument is a wonderful way to provide a peaceful moment.

Vet-to-Vet

You will sit with patients and listen to their stories of military service. As a veteran yourself, you will be able to relate to their veteran experiences.

Bereavement

You will support bereaved loved ones through mailings, memorial services, and bereavement support groups.

Student Interns

You will fulfill educational requirements for school, in areas such as social work, nursing, psychology, sociology, gerontology or chaplaincy.

Unique Talent

You will use your talent to enrich the lives of our patients. Together, we’ll design a plan that fits with your unique gift.

Unity Volunteers Talk

“Volunteering for Unity Hospice has been very fulfilling. I have met many wonderful, loving, and caring people. I am always amazed how much love the patients have to offer during their difficult time. It is a blessing to be able to be with them during their last days.”

“Volunteering with Unity Hospice has been an entirely priceless experience. Having the opportunity to support older adults who oftentimes do not have anyone who will speak helps me constantly realize what truly matters. Additionally, the entire Unity Team ensures to prioritize humanity and quality of life above everything else. This has led to some of the most genuine interactions I may ever have.”

“I could not have asked for a better experience. With Unity Hospice, I was able to serve in a way that was immediately helpful to the people I was working with. I was looking to make a positive change in the community, and I couldn’t have found a better way to do so than through Unity.”

“My volunteer coordinator made volunteering such a seamless experience. From our initial meeting, and then training, it was all so easy to get started!”

“I volunteer in the office, helping out with random tasks that need to be done. I’ve always been treated well and when I’m not there, I can’t wait to go back and see Unity friends!

“Therapy Dogs Kudos and Nautilus, and I, have experienced so much pleasure from our time volunteering with Unity. We were welcomed from the very beginning and have received so much support from our team. We love bringing smiles to our patients.”

“I’ve been searching for ways to heal myself, and I’ve found that caring for someone in need is the best way. Thank you Unity Hospice for giving me such an opportunity as a volunteer”

“I love working with the people in Unity, and they support me and give me the tools I need to feel that I know what I’m doing when I’m spending time with patients.”

“Hospice care has been wonderful to my family members that passed away with respect and dignity. I felt I needed to pay it forward for them. It has been a humbling and rewarding experience. I am honored to be a part of the unity hospice volunteers that can help.”

“There’s a great deal of satisfaction in doing this work. Just the fact that I can offer companionship to these people that are less fortunate than I am, that brings me a great amount of joy and deep satisfaction and meaning to my life and hopefully some added value to make their life more rich as the progress in their lives.”

“Serving as a patient care volunteer with Unity Hospice has been one of the most valuable experiences in my life. It’s allowed me to make genuine connections and really aid the lives of those who deserve and need it the most. In only a few months of volunteering, my involvement with Unity Hospice has made me not only a better caregiver but also a more empathetic and compassionate individual.”

“One of the things I really like about being a volunteer at Unity Hospice is that they offer so many different times and different ways of learning about hospice and hospice care.”

“I found out one of my patients did not have family who visited her. Realizing that I am that one person that she will be in contact with and probably one of the last people she will be in contact with when she passes away….that definitely stood out to me and that is something that I will always remember.”
